Exploration of historic cities

Visit of cities

Richelieu, city of the Cardinal

In 1631… Louis XIII, at the same time that he granted his minister the Cardinal de Richelieu the privilege of establishing his seigneury as a duché-pairie, gave him the authorization to build «a village enclosed by walls and ditches and a hall». Two thousand workers worked on the building sites. In 1642, when the Cardinal died, the construction of the city was practically completed.
Unique masterpiece of 17th-century urban planning, discover its architecture and history.
